smoking enduce asthma? - Asthma Message Board

I smoked for years and quit not long ago. I am not sure why I ever really started. Recently I started experience problems with taking any breath at all. I can hardly get a word out of my mouth. This may last for twenty minutes to a half hour. Is this because of my smoking habits of the past or do a have asthma. When I see the doctor he bides me off with pills.

Gregg,
You need to make an appointment to see a pulmonologist for a full workup. Most family doctors don't know how to work with asthma or other breathing disorders very well. I have asthma and it was completely out of control until I saw the pulmonary specialist and now I have a much easier time.

By the way, congratulations on being a non-smoker! That's a really hard thing to accomplish and I am very happy for you.

well done on giving up smoking....its one of the hardest things to give up...harder that heroin. Incidentally, ive been asthmatic for about 15 years and my smoking habit of 10 a day has not affected it in the least.
