Do I asthma? - Asthma Message Board

During the past couple of months I have noticed that every now and then I feel short of breath. It feels as though I'm straining to get breath in and out. This only lasts for a few moments and then I'm okay. I can exercise without getting this feeling and I do not have any wheezing. I am allergic to dust mites, pollen and molds. Could this be a warning sign that I am getting asthma through allergies or not?

I noticed not a soul answered you,,,So I will try.
One can have asthma and not wheeze. However you need to see your doctor and ask him the question. Yes it can just be allergies, but you still may need an inhaler just in case the breathing get worst. Do you cough? Do you bring up stuff? Do you get many colds? If you do how long do they last,,weeks and weeks?
So many things to learn about asthma. Then again, do you smoke or are you around smokers. For years people kept telling me to have another cig. ha ha ha,,, I did not smoke, just that my coughing was so bad.

I had asthma all my life, but just learned of it 4 years ago. Doctors kept overlooking it and I did not know to tell them about some of my systoms. I was so used to coughing I nevered noticed. I thought everyone had problems with fumes from cars and stuff.

I rarely ever wheeze and when I am wheezing I am in real trouble. It could be early asthma . The only way to tell is to ask your doc for a pft, simple test done in a hospital, and then you'll know.

You should look into a quality HEPA air cleaner for your bedroom. Do research on "dust mites" on the web. There's a whole regimen you should be doing in your house if you have dust allergies. Repeated allergen exposure often leads to asthma, so the exposure should be avoided whenever possible.
