Hi, my name is Kathy and my son Corey (age 15) was diagnosed at age 5 with asthma. He has never had to be hospitalized for treatment (luckily) However, I was wondering if anyone in the asthma forum has also been diagnosed with blebs (trapped air in lungs) due to asthma? My sons Dr. feels his chronic asthma has played a role in developing the blebs. Also Corey had a diaphragmatic hernia repair at 4 hrs. of age. We were told this too played a role (because of his left lung being compressed in utero) I hope I am making since. I'm trying not to make this too long. Corey is not in any pain and has energy to spare but I was just wondering if any of you have a similar conditon or know of someone with asthma related blebs. Corey has been on ventolin mostly and we have a nebulizer just incase the ventolin doesn't do it. Corey also was on azma cort and recently was switched to another type of corticosteroid (sp?) it is called beclomethasone dipropionate HFA inhaler. From what the PA told me this med seems to get into the lungs deeper than azma cort; but I'm not a Dr. and I know that azma cort was also working for Corey. Surgery has not been suggested, but I can't help but wonder about one of the blebs bursting (pneumothorax) is a possibility. We will be getting a second opionion soon on treatment options etc. Wait and see is hard to do. Any way with me being a newbie here just wanted to vent a little and maybe someone can relate to my little story. My Corey has already been through so much and is such a fighter from day one. mom Kathy in California
