Breathless - Asthma Message Board

Hi all i need some help I am always out of breath just walking all the time.My peak flow meter is always in the red zone and I sometimes reach for my inhalor like every 5 min.This isn't an asthma attaack because I've had one while i was feeling like thisand I passed out.I am on azmacort,flovent,serevent,albuterol,vent olin,provintal,a nebulizer and some other inhalors.My doctor doesn't know how to help and I am desperatly trying to breathe while even typing.Can anyone suggest a medication that might help?Please I can barely catch my breath.

Have you ever been tested for food or environmental allergies?

katlin,

what kind of doctor are you seeing that put you on all those medications? have you ever had a pft? Its a computer test it which you blow into a tube. Is your condtion asthma or some other type of lung condtion? If you've been diagnosed with asthma your med's are working for you, you need to see a pulmonolgist who can diagnose what's going on with you.Your on a lot of meds like I am and when I get breathless I go see my doctor. Sometimes it happens to me despite all the meds and I need a short course of prednisone.You could also have some type of infection, I get those symptons when I get a virus, and the prednisone helps me recover quicker from the virus becuase it stops the inflamation going on inside the lungs causing the breathlessness.

I agree....prednisone is a miracle drug for me when I can't get out of a slump. I absolutely DESPISE taking it cuz I feel so goofy and can't sleep when i'm on it but I always feel 100% better when I'm done with it.

I agree with the response from doubleu - food or environmental allergies may be key. I overcame my asthma when I got away from allergens (cats, dust, mold - all of which I was extremely sensitive to), and when I stopped eating/drinking dairy. I can't even begin to tell you the difference that it made.
