Chronic Bronchitis and Asthma - Asthma Message Board

Hi everyone--

I have had chronic bronchitis since age three when they told my Mom that I would outgrow it. Not factual..I am 34 now and just diagnosed with chronic asthma. I was put on Flovent, Serevent and Singulair for the control and neubulizer when needed. Has anyone else faced this same path? Is someone else on this regime of meds and how are they working? I would appreciate any input that you may have...Thanks Sheli

Sheli, I also have chronic Bronchitis and asthma. I am on all the usual med's and I hate it. I get pheumonia at least twice a year and it is really wearing me out. If I get a cold then it goes straight to Bronchitis and pheumonia. I hate taking the steriods, mainly because it puffs me up and I think makes me mean. I have finally managed to stop smoking this year so I know my situation will improve greatly. I can't take sinuglar, it gives me an awful headache and rash. Fall and winter seems to be the worst time of year for me. How about you? Do you find that asthma just wears you out and takes your energy away? Anyway my grandson was just born and he was born with asthma!!!!!! now he has bronchilies (sp) different from bronchitis. Hope he grows out of it, sure makes him sick. he is only 3 months old and has been sick all three months. But things could be worse huh!!!!! so I guess we are lucky asthma is all we have. I just found this site..... I hope someone can help identify or even relate their experience, I would really wannar know why I am havin this cough. This was after I was admitted to hospital coz i couldn't breath properly. I am not sure what I am having, My doctor (specialists) has not identified the problem yet, still on try and error basis from what i can see.

but my symptoms now are a sticky feeling in my throat (like phlegm).
I keep coughin bcoz it tickles my throat whenever i breath. It does not come out and coughin does not help. Also, the critical point is whenever i breath, it tickles my throat and start coughin continously. By then, I am almost unable to breath, and i start vomitting.

So far, I have been diagnosed by doctor that I am havin mild asthma. THis has gone on for more than 3 years. I have tried this 2 inhalers initially, then moved on to SIngulair, and just recently Seretide 250mg and Singulair, & this inhaler on stand-by called "berodual" by Boehringer Ingelheim. I dun noe what it does and whether it is effective coz I am suppose to inhale it in the worst case possible. Even now I have this phlegm feeling in my throat as I type this.

To shelli and Workinggirl..... are ur symptoms the same as mine? I am 22 yrs old rite now.. this started 3 years ago... My medications haven't been totally working as of yet...... Singulair used to help 2 yrs ago....... but I am not so sure now........ my doctor has never mentioned the work chronic bronchitis b4... so i am not sure if thats causing it? I hope anyone can relate this

Hey Daniel--

It sounds alot like what I get. i have had chronic bronchitis that is more like an upper respiratory infection with runny nose and cold like symptoms. That would clear up and have this constant drainage dwon the back of my throat (the tickle) and always trying to clear it with no luck. I tries the antihistamines and benadryl with no luck and was just diagnosed with severe asthma. Do you smoke? If you do...best to quit right away as that will only worsen your condition. The singulair cmbined with the Flovent and Serevent twice a day have lessened my symptoms and been almost two weeks free with out an attack. The difference with bronchitis and asthma is the bronchitis lets you clear the mucous out of your lungs (couching/vomiting) but asthma means the lungs are reproducing that mucous as soon as you can get it out. Not a fun thing but good luck and let me know if I can help with anything. Thanks Sheli

Daniel, have you been tested for TB? sometimes Doctors get asthma and TB mixed up because of the coughing. I also have what they call the "asthma cough" it is very bothersome and can really wear you out. Keep taking your med's and hopefully the cough will play out. good luck
