Advice? - Asthma Message Board

I have asthma that started out very mild in 6th grade. Over the years, I became worse, now in 10th grade I get it more often. Originally I was only on Maxair when needed, now this summer I was also put on Advair 100/50. Does anyone have any advice for me? Why is it getting worse with more triggers? Also, is there a way to make it clear to my mom that we have to deal with and not ignore it? (like this morning for the first time she asked if I was breathing ok becuase I started coughing and wheezing like crazy)

Allergies can be triggers for asthma. And over time, your allergies can change. You can become allergic to new things. Maybe that is happening with you.

It's a good idea to get tested for allergies. Then maybe you can do things to change your environment. Like if you allergic to dust mite poop, you can do a lot of things in your house to lessen this.

And if allergies aren't your triggers, find out what is. And try to work on avoiding these triggers.

In tenth grade you're old enough to talk to your doctor about this kind of thing -- have you been officially diagnosed? Have you ever had pulmonary function testing?

An abnormal pulmonary function test is pretty definitive proof there's something wrong.

Try Advair 250/50. I was on Advair 150/50 and it nothing for me. Changed to 250/50 and I hardley ever use my albuterol now. What a difference between the two.
