Advair: Can you tell me about it ? - Asthma Message Board

With the Servent now of the market my doctor has just prescribed Advair. Can you tell me about it and how it works for you?

It works perfect for me, have not had a problem since first being diagnosed with asthma last year and started using Advair. In fact, it was the only thing that actually helped me, nothing else worked. I have found reading some of the posts on here that either people love it because it's the first time they've been able to breathe, or they hate it because of side affects. But I think if you've used other inhalers in the past with no problem, you'll have no problem with the Advair, either. Personally, I think it's a Godsend.

Like Kellie, I think Advair is great, I have had no bad side effects. The combination of Advair and Singulair has been great for me.

I was on advair for about a month, as a newly diagnosed asthmatic (23 yrs old) and it definitely helped with the issues I was encountering. However, about a month into the dosage (250/50) I had an episode where my face became numb, my lips actually began to shrivel and tighten without cause and actually started to have facial spasms as well. Needless to say, my doctor removed from the advair and said that it was an allergic reaction to the advair, and yes I was washing my mouth afterwards. In addition, I had a bad time with the inability to sleep while on the medicine as well as some heightened anxiety.

I cant say how it will work for you, but these symptoms were enough for me to doubt the medicine. I was switched to Flovent which I have been on for over two months and that has worked just as well if not better than the advair. Only other meds that I was taking at the time or am now are prevacid and clairinex.

I've been on Advair for a year and a half. (250/50) It was working okay, but not great for me. I still had episodes of wheeziness and I couldn't sleep at night. About a month ago the doctor suggested I use it only once a day and see what happened. That worked like a miracle for me. Since I've started only 1/day, my asthma is under better control than it's ever been and I am sleeping at night. Haven't had to use my rescue inhaler once since this change. (When on 2x/day, was using it 4-5 times each week).

The only complaint I have is that it sometimes dries my mouth out if I don't use the inhaler correctly. Make sure you hold the device absolutely level, this will force you to hold your head level when you inhale and less will fall on your tongue.
