Ok, well I feel like I have bugged my doc enough so I figured I would try asking on here. I was diagnosed with Asthma two yrs ago. I take Zyrtec and Singulair and have Albuterol as needed. I was on Advair for a while but stopped it due to the fact that my insurance doesnt cover it and I played heck trying to pick up the samples from my pulmonary's office cause of his office staff. They are better now that he set them straight after I complained so he gave it to me again and wants me to take it. I put it off for a while figuring I could do fine without it. I have since been to my PCP who also works with me and my pulmonary doc with my asthma I told her its getting worse at night and that someone mentioned to me because of my chronic cough and the asthma being worse at night and the fact that my albuterol inhaler I don't seem to always get it right when taking it that they thought a Nebulizer would be better to use eveyr night before bed. My PCP thought it was a good idea and got it approved its being delivered soon. I started my advair this morning after having a bad night last night and waking up to asthma attack this AM. MY question is can you be on Advair and use the Nebulizer too?I mean I am pretty sure you can but just want to double check. I could call my doc I just hate bugging them. PCP doesnt know I started the Advair back and pulmonary doc doesnt know about the nebulizer so just want to double check...Also with the nebulizer you can still use the albuterol inhaler for emergency's right? DO any of you use Advair and a Nebulizer if so does it seem to make a difference?
Advair is a combination of a long-acting form of albuterol and inhaled steroid.
I know folks who use both advair and a nebulizer with albuterol and a steroid.
For most folks, though, the Advair is used as a controller. You can get different amounts of the steroid, but the dosage of the long-acting albuterol stays the same.
Ask your doctor about using your rescue inhaler while you are using the nebulzier. I normally do not need the rescue inhaler if I am using the nebulizer.
Ok, well I had only taken one dose of the Advair before I found out I was getting the nebulizer. I am not going to take the Advair and the Neb because the pharmicist said that the meds the doc gave me for the neb (Albuterol and Atrovent) are similar to the Advair and that I didnt need to take both. I used the Neb for the first time tonight and omg it really opens me up and I feel breathing is much easier. I look forward to trying it in the AM when I wake up I am sure I will feel so much better. I am supposed to use it three times a day so I think when I first wake up then around 2pm and then again around 10pm (My biggest complaint with my asthma was that I had issues at night and in the am) so I amm really hoping this helps. I was told to keep my rescue inhaler for emergencies still though. I also take singulair and Zyrtec, hoping all this together really helps me feel better. Only thing I noticed was I got really shakey and a little light headed while doing the neb but was told this is very normal. My dad is a Firefighter/EMT so I took it to his station since he was working and did the treatment there since I was nervous about using it also there was a Cardiac Tech there tonight at his station and he also sat in with us while I did it to reassure me. I am really glad my doc agreed to let me try this route...
I'm glad it made a difference for you,,,I know the nebs do for me. I use dueneb in my neb,,,seems to help the shaking for me,,,however,,,everyone is different.
Glad it helps!
