Eczema and asthma

Does anyone here know if eczema can be a precursor to asthma? I mean, this morning my eczema was flaring up a bit so I put some Elidel on it ..and now my asthma is getting worse. It's happened before also, so I was wondering....it seems like it could be very likely.

Re: Eczema and asthma

Both are related to allergies often, so I would imagine the eczema was a sign that you have some allergic issues going on which latter effected your asthma.

yeah, Asthma and Eczema runs hand in hand. I have both and I was told that most people who have Eczema has asthma. I don't understand it totally, but the both are considered allergy related.

Re: Eczema and asthma

I too have both eczema and asthma.
My eczema often gets worse before my asthma acts up,
but to put this another way eczema can be an early warning signal of asthma.
Also reducing allergens could hopefully reduce both symptoms.

Yeah I was told that usually if you have asthma there is a very good chance you have eczema too. As a child my asthma and eczema were extreme but now they have both improve drastically I put that all down to my diet

About a decade ago when I was about 11, we (my mum and me) cleared out all fizzy drinks and drinks with additives etc from my diet, took out wheat completely, introduced more whole grain and plenty of fruit and veg. Its funny seeing the new food guidelines when my mum started implementing then on me all those years ago.

Of course at the time I was(and do still) also suffering from Attention deficit disorder, and so she thought all my problems were environmental, so taking care of my enviroment and nutrition would be the cure, completely ignoring the genetics factor of my dad having asthma (all be it mild), and unbeknown to her until much much later her being attention deficit herself.
