Question about Wheezing - Asthma Message Board

Does anyone know if you are wheezing (even if it is slight) should you take your rescue inhaler. Or do you save the rescue inhaler for what one would consider to be a true rescue situation. I take singluar every day and the Dr. told me to use the inhaler when I am wheezing. I tend to wheeze often, but it is rather mild- when I say mild I mean I can still do daily activities and the wheeze isn't very loud. I'm just confused, b/c I don't necessarily think of that as a "rescue" situation and don't want to be an inhaler junkie. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Maybe you just need to add a daily inhaler to your regimen...such a Flovent. It would appear the Singular isn't doing the job on its own. In the mean time though, I would use the rescue inhaler when you wheeze. Perhaps if you knock the first one of the day, the others will subside also. But I would talk with your doctor about it as well.

Thank you for your thoughts. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks and wasn't sure if it was necessary to bring up. Do you happen to know what the difference between a rescue inhaler and daily inhaler is? What makes one only to be used as a rescue and one okay to be used daily?

They are different medications. The daily inhaler is a steroid. It is meant to control the disease long term as you will be on it for the rest of your life. Some people do well on just the singular and for some it doesn;t work. Since oyu are still have trouble, it would seem you need the steroid inhaler.

The rescue inhaler is Albuterol and it stops an attack while it is happening (which the daily one will NOT do). You can also use it 20 minutes before aerobic excerise (jogging, dancing, etc) to keep from having an exercise induced attack.
