Singulair - Asthma Message Board

My dr. prescribed me Singulair. Anyone else take it? Is it effective? I'm currently only on Albuterol with mild asthma. Is Singulair something that you take long term? Thanks.

I just started taking singulair recently. It's pretty effective with the asthma and a lot better for you then oral steroids (or so im told). The only side effects i seem to notice is that im a bit more irritable, but i can control that. The other thing is that it might make me more suseptible to colds and viruses because ive had more colds this year then ever before. But overall it's been good.

Yes, it would be life long as the inhaled steroids are for asthma. At present, there is no cure for asthma in an adult so any meds would have to be taken for life. Albuterol is a rescue inhaler and should only be used to stop an attack. Are you seeing a pulmonologist or your PCP? You really should see a pulmonologist for asthma.

That could mean its time to start getting flu shots. Here in Canada asthmatics get the flu shot for free. Since your cilia can be damaged, when you inhale germs, they don’t get pushed up out of the lungs like someone with healthy lungs. They stay in there, and breed. It is normal for people with asthma, as they get older they are unable to fight colds as well as they did, many older people get it so bad to the point they cannot come in contact with anyone with a cold or the public because they WILL get it, and it could become life threatening.

Yea, i've always been more suseptible to colds than others. But on the other hand, i never really get the flu or any other viruses in excess to others, just colds. Also im only 17. What do u make of it? Oh, and does the flu shot have any effect on colds? I just got it recently (first time ever) and i feel liek garbage now. Soar throat, headaqe, you know. But on the plus side my asthma is fine.
