Hi Ginger

After you click the little lever all the way to the right you inhale the medicine. You won't hear it come out but it will. You may taste the powder as you are inhaling it some do some don;t . Make sure to rinse your mouth out afterwards to prevent getting thrush. I learned the hard way

Right be sure to rinse out before swallowing, also gargle to wash out the back part of throat. some people recommend a certain crest mouthwash too. Cant remember the name.

Re: Help- how to use advair diskus

Yes. Remember, it's a dry powder inhaler. There's no propellent, it's just your inhalation that moves it out of the device and into your lungs. Actually, I believe there's some pictures floating around on the internet of an Advair Diskus disassembled so you can get a better idea of how it works.

But keep in mind that once you pull the lever back, the medication is just sitting in an open reservoir, hence the caution in the instruction to be careful not to breathe into the diskus at all. Doing so will disperse the medication into the disk.

Re: Help- how to use advair diskus

If you are still confused or not sure you are using it right, I'd suggest taking it in with you the next time you go to your doctor's office. They can walk you through the steps or may even have you practice on a "dummy" inhaler. At my asthma/allergy clinic, it is poilcy that they make me practice on a dummy inhaler every time I go in for an appointment. It's a bit redundant but I feel good that they are checking.
