Exercise induced asthma?

I think I might have exercise induced asthma but I'm not sure. When I exercise, I can hear myself wheezing (my husband hears it too), my chest tightens a little bit and it becomes slightly harder to breath. Also my throat burns, but I don't know if that's related. I assumed I was just being a "big baby" and couldn't handle jogging or cardio. My breathing becomes normal again after I've stopped for a few minutes and cold water seems to help also. The same thing happens when I'm outside and it's really humid. Could this be asthma? Any input would be great.

Re: Exercise induced asthma?

Could be EIA. See a pulmonologist.

Re: Exercise induced asthma?

Hi Tiff,

My son has EI asthma and it sounds like what you've experienced except he coughs instead of wheezing. His chest gets tight, but he hasn't mentioned his throat burning. I took him to an allergy/asthma specialist and they said most asthma is caused by an allergy. My son never had the classic allergy symptoms, so I didn't think he was allergic to anything. When they tested him, sure enough, he's allergic to grass and tree pollen. They put him on zyrtec and singulair and they have him use albuterol and intal inhalers before exercise. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Jodi
