my son has really bad asthma. his worst time is during the winter they usually put him on prednisilone every 3 weeks all winter long. about a month ago he had an attack at night that we treated with neb treatments (nothing to cause concern for us) but he got bad fast. in the past during the winter he would end up at the emergency room 5 + times a year,it took along time to find the right meds that worked for him but no meds ever seemed to work real good. we thought he was out growing it. this was his first attack this year. any way. long story short, he stopped breathing on the way to the hospital. they got him breathing again, really fast, and everything seemed ok. at the hospital there was only one nurse in our room cuz he was doing good nothing unusual or a cause of concern. the next thing i know the room is full of nurses and doctors and they are doing cpr. he had a heart attack from the asthma attack. it took 20 min to bring him back. even shorter now, we are currently at a childrens hospital and we have been here for a month and they say it will be another month befor we can go home. my son now is in a vegitative state and they feel this is how he will be from here on out. has anyone out there been through this cuz i could really use some one to talk to. the scariest thing for me is that his attacks always happened at night, we would hear his little whimpers or cries and be able to wake up and treat him. he doesnt cry anymore, all his signs of attacks have changed. this is the scariest thing i have ever been through in my life. but at least i still have him in my life!!
