astham flare/uri/elevated blood pressure

Can anyone tell me if an asthma flare and 3 weeks of URI can elevate your blood pressure? Mine normally runs 118/62-which is good. I went to the Dr. last Thurs and it was 132/87-high for me. I have been leaning on the albuteral nebs pretty heavy and I know that can raise it some, but can just being sick cause it too?

Thanks

Yes, illness can raise or lower blood pressure.

Re: astham flare/uri/elevated blood pressure

When the body is under attack, from pollens or pollutants or irritants or stress, among other things; the metabolism frequently will raise the blood pressure and the heart rate to provide more strength and energy. This is a good thing. Higher blood pressure is not always a bad thing.

High blood pressure is a bad thing when it is constantly elevated, IMHO.

Re: astham flare/uri/elevated blood pressure

Last winter I was having bouts of high blood pressure (not the first time either) I'm 33, adverage weight healthy etc.....a little about my background..I've had 3 kids and this happens after everytime...the last baby it spiked to 190/220 or something crazy like that...went away after a few months...came back again last winter WITH a constant high pulse of 111-120bpm..had a ekg..echocardio gram etc..the whole workup, everything was fine ..doctors were confused, I also had chest tightness, shortness of breath too..well during my doctor appointment I forgot to mention my shortness of breath and chest tightness (duh) called my doctor back told him and right away he was like "WOW, I think you may have asthma!" since then (been on meds) I haven't had any problems with blood pressure and stuff like that.....we'll see though....gosh I hope that kinda makes sense I've been typing and trying to pay attention to the kids lol
