Help Using Advair

When I inhale the advair, the powder that you're supposed to breathe in gets stuck on the roof of my mouth. Can someone give me some advice on the way to use this properly?

Re: Help Using Advair

You could try to aim it more directly back and sort of down but it doesn't matter. The powder isn't the med. And you should be rinsing your mouth after using an inhaled steroid anyway so it's OK

Re: Help Using Advair

Hi Rick,

When you use the Advair, advance the inhaler to the dose you're about to take. Then put your mouth to the inhaler and SLOWLY inhale the dose. If you do it this way, the powder SHOULD NOT STICK to the roof of your mouth! Then just rinse your mouth with water so you don't get thrush on your tongue. (thrush is a fungal infection which you really don't want to have because your tongue will feel like cotton is stuck to it!)

Hope this helps!

Regards,
******* (Carol)

The powder isn't the med? Does that mean we can't feel the med?

Re: Help Using Advair

I've never used Advair but that's what I've been told by some who do. They may be wrong. I don't know.

Re: Help Using Advair

The powder is the medicine mixed with a milk by-product. It does hit the inside of your mouth a little, but try to aim it at the back of your throat.

If you can't get it right, ask your doctor for a prescription for the regular inhaler version with a spacer.
