When I had a bad flare up with a cold in May I had problems with thick sticky mucus that settled in my chest and throat. I had a really hard time trying to cough it up. My asthma has been flaring up this summer because of allergies. Some days are better than others. The sticky mucus is back again. I had an ENT say that I don't have post nasal drip. I use avamys nasal spray for allergic rhinitis. The mucus starts in my throat and I am unable to clear it away. Eventually it settles into my chest triggering an asthma attack. Is this mucus because of my allergies? I seem to have it mildly most of the time. Is it just part of asthma? Is there any way to get rid of it? Albuterol helps when it triggers my asthma but the mucus never goes away completely. I also take symbicort.
Do you have any acid reflux? I was feeling like I had a lot of gunk in my throat (kindof like post nasal drip) and it turned out to be acid reflux. I didn't realize that was a symptom. It also triggers my asthma if it gets out of control.
I don't think I have acid reflux but I'm not sure. I have had chronic hoarseness for the past two years. I tried a medication for acid reflux which never changed the hoarseness. I never felt any different while taking the medication. I have read that acid reflux can trigger asthma.
The acid reflux medicines aren't as effective for hoarseness or cough as they are for the classic heartburn symptoms. They don't stop the reflux, just dilute it a little bit.
