Question Important question

Hi, Just found this site!

I am a grandmother and my 7 year old granddaughter has PPD. Repeative behavior is common I know. I dont know how to ask this question but here goes.
For a few months now she will go to certain places in the house or where ever she is ( school, friends house, etc) and places here hands under her privates and rocks back and forth . If you dont stop her she will sit there as long as you let her. She gets very upset when you stop her. Everyone has to try to keep her busy doing other things but it has gotten worse and has become very stressful for everyone. I know this behavior is common with children but for a child with austism how do you make them understand they can't do that all the time.
My question--- Has anyone had this problem and what is your suggestion?
Please help!

Re: Important question

What type of diet is she on? Is she High functioning, low functioning... somewhere in between? ( if you are not sure, what type of classroom is she in?)

I would suspect yeast and or bacterial ovegrowth at minimum...what are her stools like? Skin- bumpy, dry, etc. Hair- dry, oily, thin....

the yahoo list for enzymes is a good place to start.
I would treat with GSE ( grapefruit seed extract), and get her started on a good supplement program...

You need to reinforce that this particular behavior is done in the privacy of her own room... and just keep on..

Good luck, C

Re: Important question

Thanks so much for your response. My granddaughter goes to a special class in school but she also spends a couple of hours in the 1st grade classroom. She communicates with sign language. Functioning--she is in the middle I suppose. Her skin and hair are normal . She eats just about anything, likes salads, healthy foods. She also likes water. Thanks again!

Re: Important question

Even though a the child is autistic, they still need to learn that some behaviour is just not acceptable. It is commen for special needs children to self stimulate so a firm no combined with diversion tactics might do the trick, eventually, you dont want her to still be behaving like that at 13, in public, or around other people, it could also put her in danger (unfortunaltely). It must be discouraged, gently, but forcibly.
