What would you do? - Autism Spectrum Message Board

Hi, I have a 6 month old son. He is my only boy, I have 3 older girls. I have been doing alot of reading lately regarding shots and the possible link to Autism. I am absolutely terrified! I do not want my son to have any more vaccinations but I'm affraid my pediatrician might turn us away if I refuse. Not to mention schools that want parents to believe you MUST have your child immunized to enroll. For those of you who feel there IS a connection, would you get the shots or not?

While I do not belive my son got Autism from his vac. (looking back I belive that there was always something wrong). I do belive that in some cases there is a conection. I think some of the people I have talked to say that you can request a thermasal free vac. (I hope I spelled it right), which is soposed to be better.

Just remember that you are the Mother no matter what others might say stick with what you belive. You can change a childs Dr. but not his Mother.

I thank you all for your responses and I will check out the links you posted. I just thought I would clarify my original post. I am not looking for anyone to make the decision for me, but because our government and the majority of our physicians tell parents there's no connection between vaccines and autism and other illnesses it is very hard to find the truth. I was really wanting to know how many of you believed a shot was responsible for your child's health problems because I don't think what stats are available are accurate. I believe there are many parents who believe completely that their child was compromised by receiving a vaccine however their concerns are not being reported to the general public. The media is portraying a parent that refuses vaccinations as neglegant and uneducated. It makes me upset that dr's brush the idea aside as if there is no reason to believe it and yet every day there are hundreds of children having mild to severe reactions to vaccines that are supposed to be protecting them.

Again, I very much appreciate your responses.

When my son was dx this sept my daughter was just turning 1. My "doctor" (nurse practioner) decided that we would wait until Rita was ready to start school before we would decide about having the MMR shot she was very concernd about the link and said that she would rather be safe than sorry. She is also looking up info on other typs of vac. for me.
