Autism in Arkansas? - Autism Spectrum Message Board

Is anyone else in Arkansas? I have a four year old son with autism. I live in Conway. We recently attended a meeting with the director of the Arkansas Autism Society. Lots of information was provided and we are beginning a Faulkner County Chapter. I have found that there are not a lot of resources in Arkansas for families dealing with Autism. If there is anyone else out there that can offer any information, please do. Thank you.

Hi Sherri,

Since me and another Sherri on this board freqently exchange posts, I just had to say hi and offer you any support you may need. I am not in Arkansa, but would advise that you check with your local government agencies for special education, child find, public schools, and disabililty law centers. Since I am not from your area, I can't give you any specifics, but this is how I got started when my son was your son's age. I hope you can find some resources that will help you and your son. Also check on the internet for autism resources, there is a site on there that goes by state. If I can find it, I will write you again and give you the address. I hope to talk with you soon.

Hi. My name is Lisa and I have a 5 year old Autistic boy. I live in Northwest Arkansas. This state is definintely lacking in resources for Autism. Medicaid has CONSTANT red tape. My sons keeps losing his Therapies because they keep changing the testing standards. Very frustrating. My son has recently been rediagnosed from severe to mild. Just in time to enter public school. I will try to keep up with you ladies. Sorry I can't be of help in your area, if ever, I hear anything I'll let you know. Good luck and God Bless!
