Post Autism and ADHD

Hello,

I have been wondering if some of you have experienced adhd behavior with your child some of the time while other times he seems calm (without medication). My son seems to be very overactive this week. There has been no changes with medication and diet. All of his therapists have made comments to me since last week in regards to him not being able to focus and sit still. I have tried ritalin with him and I really don't see a night and day difference and it doe's not seem to wire him either. We first started him on 5mg and now he is up to 10mg. I really am confused on this issue. Are the other medications out there for ADHD different than ritalin and if one doe's not seem to work doe's that mean they all will not work?

Rachel,
My son has autism and he was also diagnosed with adhd. I am doing everything meds. free and he has days where he is very calm and others to where he's bouncing off the walls for several days straight. I'm doing Naet treatments on him and through my naet practioner, she discovered he has hyperactivity when he comes in contact with enviromental chemicals, such as glass cleaners, pinesol, paints...etc. last month I painted my room and for a whole week he screamed alot, lost some eye contact temporary, and could not sit still....I finally took him to his naet practioner and she balanced out his body and he was back to being calm. Try and think back to what started your son to become hyper that day.....did you clean house using alot of chemicals, paint, did you barbque (charcle can set my son off), did he eat anything with food dyes, or anything new? If you can think of something he was around that day that he's not around everyday....have him around that substance again and see what happens and then you will know to avoid it.

nicksmom,

I have racked my brain trying to figure it out. This has happened many times but I cannot figure out what is going on. My son has major allergies but we have avoided these items for along time. Maybe it is some new allergy. I often wonder if it is the diet coke. He cannot have regular coke due to the corn syrup. But he has been drinking diet coke for a while and some days he's fine and others he is bouncing off the walls. When you say the doctor "balanced his system" what do you mean?

People who have chronic health problems have an unbalanced body. Accupuncture, accupressure, and many other holistic therapies can balance out your body and make you feel better. Naet (Nambudripad's allergy elimination technique)is a safe, effective, natural approach to detecting and eliminating all types of allergies. Naet combines techniques from kinesiology (muscle strength testing), chiropractic, and oriental medicine, to clear allergic reactions through a "reprogramming" of the brain. The actual technique used involves light acupressure applied along both sides of the spinal column in an area where the energy flow of meridian intersects with the nerve roots. By doing this, it can eliminate allergies permanently. I was very skeptical at first but after a few treatments, I saw some awsome results. One thing that made me a true believer in this was when my son would act up everytime we would go to the practioners office (he was very calm before we would show up). THe second we put him on the table, he would start squiling, and laughing for no reason. I noticed he acted like this whenever he ate sitting on this certin chair we had at home. Anyway, it turned out he was allergic to vinyl! he had the acupressure applied to him while he held vinyl and after that he was calm....he never acts out when he touches vinyl now. If your interested, I found a doctor in your state who has a email and website....I think she's close to your city. Maybe you can email her and ask her about the allergies. I know the moderators will erase it so I'll just post the practioners name,Kimberly Jones, D.C.,
and you can do a search for the naet web site....they have the practioners list on her site. Anyway, I hope you figure out what is making him hyper. Oh, by the way, they do add coloring to alot of sodas and the body was not made to eat artifical sugars...many people have problems to diet drinks...so that could very well be it.
Robin

Robin,

Thanks for the information. My son doe's see an allergist once about every three months. We just eliminated the products he is allergic to. No allergy shots. And at the last visit his blood test was in normal range compared to the initial test that was off the scale. The information provided by you sounds interesting. I'm going to check into it. Thanks again.

Rachel
