hi i am feeling a bit down. it is summer time here and all the kids in the street are out playing. my wee boy is sitting in the garden all alone. i feel so sad that he has not one friend to play with. at times i thank god that he does not understand but it really hurts me.
i feel he is missing out on a lot.
i have asked some of the neigbour`s kids to come into the garden but they don`t want to know.
even the mothers don`t talk to me or even look at my son.
anyway i feel a bit better i have got it off my chest.

Hi Trisha,

Have you tried contacting your local NAS branch to see if they a friendship scheme running??

I dont know if your local social service has an outreach programme, but this could be another possibility.

Its sad that the local children do not want to play but don't get too down.

Mannnnn, big hugs to you. I bet most of us have been there. I am so lucky the neighborhood boys are 4 years older, and have some super parents and have all spent time playing with and nurturing Jay. Don't give, alot of times autism can be a long dark tunnel but with all we've learned lots of times theres is a light at the end of the very long tunnel! How old is your boy now? Luv- meme

I feel for you. We have an ice cream truck that drives around the neighborhood just like when I was a kid and all the other kids get excited and run after it but my son doesn't. It makes me really sad to see him not be excited like the other children. But alot of the time I think it affects us moms more than our children.

I feel really bad about the other children not playing with your son. The kids around us are pretty good as well as the adults. There is a center near us call the Rich center it has a program for autistic kids. Maybe you could look into something near you through your therapist
