A couple of months ago, my girls got sick and in an effort to get some sleep (all of us) and to ensure that Abby got enough fluids, we let her take a Capri Sun to bed. Of course, Abby has fixated on this and now
needs it to go to sleep. She also wakes up in the night and freaks out if there is not any left. She is quite mean about it and she also spills it frequently, generating more laundry and wig-outs because she is wet. She has been running us ragged with this juice for weeks and weeks now. I knew we needed to put a stop to it, the stuff is so bad. I noticed when she began ABA, that she did not harass the people at the center about it, her consultative therapist confirmed this. Dh and I decided to bite the bullet and put an end to the juice terror once and for all last night. She was terrible about it, of course. I had to restrain her to keep her from hitting and scatching herself for about an hour before she went on to sleep. Then she was up every three hours for an hour each time at full-tilt-boogie. At 5:30 I let her get up and go into my room and have a juice. Needless to say, she is already not too nice today.
Jimmy and I really feel like we need to do this. For her oral health and I believe that all the sugar that is in that junk is part of why her sleep has been so bad as of late.
Have any of ya'll dealt with this? Breaking a fixation? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
