Strattera (atomoxetine) - Autism Spectrum Message Board

I saw a commercial for Strattera tonight. It is a new non-stimulant medication for ADHD. I was wondering if one had an autistic child that was on this medication, if so how is it working for them? My son (5 yrs old) has autism and is very hyper, we tried Ritalin and Adderall and it didn't work. He is now on Tenex, which is helping. But I am just wondering if Strattera would be better.

My son is 6 and we tried Strattera for about two months and it had no effect on him. We too had tried adderall and ritalin and it did nothing for him as well. My son is very hyper and so far we have not found the answer as far as medication goes.

Hope, It was recommended for my son to take strattera, he has PDD-NOS. Our Doc said he was having some success with another patient that was similar to my son. I have chosen not to start him on the drug after reading the boards on the ADD-ADHD thread. My advice is to research, research, research!!

I have a 8 year old who is HFA-AS. We have tried ritalin, concerrta, adderall. All the stims made my son worse instead of better. He also devloped tics while on those meds. My doctor switched us to tenex also. It does seem to be working he is also on risperal and we just statred taking straterra. I know I did not spell it right. he is not on the full does he can take at his weight limit and we have seen a huge change in him. The real test will come when school starts soon.

Mom of 6 year old Autistic girl here - she's med free to date. She has done very well with a restricted diet (no cow's milk) and very restricted sugars. Still too hyper to focus long, though - and very anxious at times - especially a sudden drop in barometric pressure happens (goes from warm front to cold front suddenly - she gets extremely agressive.) Interested in trying Ritalin or Straterra - anyone know it's available (Ritalin is, not sure about Straterra) in Canada yet?
