Hi
I will reply as a teacher of children with ASD and many other disabilities-OCD being one of them. It is very difficult to say without observing your son- what characteristics he displays and how he behaves in the home and learning enviornment. Just from what you have posted, I would say that yes it sounds like OCD as opposed to Aspergers, but then again....I don't know your son.
I would get the school district to evlauate him again if you believe he has been misdiagnosed. Does the sped teacher and specials agree with you? If so, you have their support to have him reevlaulted before the next IEP reeval. It sounds like the psy is all for testing. I cannot give you names of books here or sites to help you, but do the research and you will find your rights and how to get him reevaluated. He should be in a program where the teacher KNOWS what to do to help him learn regardless of his dx.
Perhaps you should look into having him placed in a different setting (it sounds like he is in public school-inclusion)? such as a collaborative or seperate setting. This is just my opinion, but as a special ed teacher....I would know what to do with your son....from my experience....and I don't work in the public school setting. Just an idea to look into. Best of luck and always trust your mommy gut...it is the most powerful form of knowing in my opinion.
