is it me or is he getting worse? - Autism Spectrum Message Board

As some of you know my son 33 months has autism we recently found out. The past sever weeks he seems to be getting much worse. He not loving anymore and seems to be getting more angry at things and frustrated. It seems like his hand flapping is getting worse also. And it use to seem happy all the time. Now it seems like hes always sad or depressed. Is this normal? or maybe am I just noticing things more now? The last thing I want him to do is get worse.

Mommaboyz, I have been going through something similar with my 29 month old. He was making so much progress and in the middle of last week he seemed to get alittle off track. He got quieter and alot of the flapping and stimming were happening more than they had been. Also my sweet affectionate little boy has been a holy terror this week showing aggression when he's frustrated. That's not him at all. He is beginning to come out of it alittle but some of the temper type behaviors are still there. Sometimes I feel like I look at these behaviors and think it's the Autism, but in all actuality it could be that he's just being terrible 2. I get worried more about the quietness and the stimming than I do about the affection thing because all kids refuse to give affection from time to time. It's their way of having some control. I'm sure it's a passing thing with both our kids. Keep your chin up

Good news ladies....I just asked my son's OT today about that. She said that children in the spectrum will show progress and then plat owe, regress, progress, plat owe, regress. Like taking two steps forward standing there for a bit, taking a step back, then two steps, standing there, one back. Do you understand what I mean? It just takes our kids longer to get up the steps.
Our problem has a lot to do with sensory issues. We stopped brushing for a few weeks and my son is having more tantrums, not sleeping as good, mumbling more than talking. So we have to start brushing again. Live and learn. They should have a book out Sensory Intergration Dysfunction for Dummies. I believe more and more that this is the key to success. Get those senses going...
