What are some of the early warning signs in toddlers for Autisum and or Aspergers?

I would say an early sign for both autism and aspergers is little or no eye contant when speaking to someone or when being spoken to.

Little or no speech.

Playing with toys inappropriately. By this I mean that they may have no idea what to to with toys eg. turning cars over and just spinning wheels.

Hand flapping, walking on toes all the time, making lots of strange noises, extreme sensitivity to sounds, fabrics etc.

There are lots of early signs for autism but each child is different and therefore, they all show different signs. I hope this is helpful to you.

Hi; some other signs are

No babbling as infant

Extremely fussy

No pointing or gesturing by 12 mos.

No imative play ie: no peek a boo no waving bye bye

No looking to share something with you; like a favorite character in a book or an airplane above or something of interest to them.

No looking when their name is called. They appear deaf.

These are just some of the ones I could think of off the top of my head along with the previous poster's. I hope this helps

If you google 'PDD Assessment Scale' there is a child brain site with a questionaire that really helped me. Good luck!

JANA I used that assessment also. I still take it from time to time to see if there are any changes. I too found this helpful. Good tip to anyone in the questioning phase.
