Getting a job - Autism Spectrum Message Board

I read on the internet that only 6% of autistic adults of working age (in the UK at least) are actually working, as opposed to 49% of disabled people in general. This is appalling!

Has anyone here managed to get a job? Or had difficulty getting a job? My partner is autistic (AS) and is looking for a job after gaining his degree. He is finding it very difficult. He had one interview, but perhaps he did not come across well (which is basically the nature of the disability). We are concerned about his performance in interview, due to being in an unfamiliar situation and with people he does not know. Does anyone know what help he can get (bearing in mind we are in the UK)? Thanks.

If he gets a college degree, it will be easier. Its probably hard for autistic people to find jobs if their people skills are lacking. But, some have awesome computer skills, so a home based job is perfect for them.

In the US we have an organization called PRIDE and lots of others like it. They train severly disabled people to work in menial jobs. Its a great program and gets people out of the house or home they are in, to work, interact, etc. But, for the high functioning people, its much harder.
