Nationwide listing of autism resources - Autism Spectrum Message Board

Does anyone know if there is a consolidated directory of some kind that would show autism resources for the entire country (USA) We are starting a nationwide job search and a big piece of the puzzle will be finding suitable resources for our 3 yr old autistic son. It would be much more efficient if we could focus on areas/states that are favorable in their funding for services (ie, New Jersey) as opposed to another like our current, Ohio. Right now the only way I have found is to go to each states education website and try to decipher what they offer, but it's not easy. If anyone knows of any, I would appreciate the assist. A nationwide listing of institutions, organizations, etc. that focus on autism would also be helpful

Maybe if you contact your local autism support center, they will be able to provide you with a list. I have to say that I have been very happy with the services offered in Massachusetts. My son is eligible to receive up to 30 hours of either floortime, ABA, or a combo of both. We do not have to pay for any of this therapy. And the therapist come right into our home to work with him. Thanks Steph. We'll add Massachusetts to the list. In Ohio there is nothing comparable to that. Anything you get must be squeezed out of the local school district, and that's not easy. An attorney is about the only way and they are quite pricey. Anyway, we'll continue the search.

we are having a pretty good go of it maine here. the only thing is that our comissioner of education had brilliant idea to save 6 million dollars by getting rid of our early childhood intervention division... but that doesnt happen until 2008... then the public schools are suppose to take it over but right now the schools are fighting the change... along with all of the parents with children in CDS. CDS has set up everything for our son... he also gets 30 hours a week of ABA along with OT and Speech. we also have a new case management service that goes along with isaac when he transitions to public school and they are setting up respite services for isaac and an additional service that will tack on up to additional 24 hours a week of service on top of his 6 hours a day. this service will be LIKE ABA but we (the parents) will be in charge of what should be worked on so we could request programing in things like eating skills, swimming skills, safety skills while walking... pretty much anything that we can imagine. so, that will be nice.

the only thing is i dont think you will find much for work in maine

its a pretty rural state

I'll write down Maine as another option. Never been there, but always wanted to visit. My wife is a resident in Emergency Medicine, so if there is a hospital, there's always a chance of a job.
