Has anyone gone thru this class??? - Autism Spectrum Message Board

I just wanted some input. I have my 14yr old AS son in a type of a class. I did not know if it was just in my area. He goes to the "class" or meets with the group once a week from 6:15-7:45. The class is boys and girls anywhere from 6-12 students at a time. The class teaches social appropriate conversations. How to learn to read body language. When to know that your babbling. ETC. He has be in the class off and on for about a year and a half. It runs in 6-8 week sessions. Does anyone else do this or have this. Just wanted to know if they liked it, hated it.....

The class you're talking about sounds like a social pragmatics class.

The kids basically learn social scripts that help them to interact with peers, authority figures, people in public, etc. (like, "how do you order food at a restaurant?" "how do you ask a friend to play a game?"... stuff that children on the spectrum have a hard time doing)

A lot of parents I know look far and wide for these types of classes to be held for their children, so I'd keep your son in it... it couldn't hurt.
