hi i have just finished a sign language course for my 4 year old autistic son and he is amazing he will not sign unless he is desprate but he understands every sign i do and boy as it made life easier he also uses pecs i strongly recomend both lots of luck caza

how did you get your child to sign or pecs? my daughter is only 2 1/2 and she is very stiff in the hands due to sensory issues and wont sign. she also wont take the pecs from me and hand it back, she puts the pecs back on the fridge. she will only do pecs for a speech therapist and i think it's cause of routine.

Sounds like my world. We started trying sign language with Cara almost a year ago (she is now 3), and she has yet to make a sign on her own. She will do "all done" with someone else's hand, but otherwise she refuses. The therapist tried using pictures for communication, but Cara was only mildly interested and not very cooperative. It isn't a matter of how she communicates - its that she just isn't that interested!

i guess i am not alone, and does your child do imitation at all? my daughter has a hard time with that too.

hi regarding sign and pecs if i had tried this two years ago i would have got nowhere our children do not seem to be ready or able until about four years old hang on in there and try again when your child is older as for pecs choose four objects that really motivate your child and use them at the same time every day it will be slow but it will work honest its very hard work gud luck caza
