| Re: I'm at my wits end! Please help!
Our son, Joe, is nine and an Aspie too. He also has ADHD, and mild cerebral palsy. He is currently on Strattera, Abilify and Fish Oil. When he was seven he was dx with bipolar disorder, and I went along with it for a year, not knowing any better, until I read the DSM IV criteria for bipolar, along with a bipolar message board for parents, and realized this was NOT my child at all. At that point he was on Risperdal, and a short time of Prozac, which made him more angry. He has tantrums almost daily, and is just getting a hold of his bathroom issues this year. This June his new psychiatrist weaned him of the risperdal and within a month he was back to bathroom issues and was hitting me and screaming his high pitched screech in anger with out using words. (He speaks well) We knew that he needed something. So now he is on the Abilify, which has less of a chance of side effects, like the weight gain he was having on the risperdal. The Abilify is starting to work, but he's still having problems with emotional outburtsts and maturity. Hopefully he will soon be getting his IEP, and with the right placement, along with my husband and I getting on the same page with discipline, things will get even better.
