I'm from Albertville, MN (an outer ring suburb of Minneapolis) and I have a 40 year old brother with Asperger's, an 18 year old son with Asperger's and a 9 year old son with a traditional autism diagnosis. We also believe my late father had Asperger's, but he was never diagnosed.
My husband, my 21 year old daughter(from my first, not current marriage) and I all have a diagnosis of ADD, although truly we probably each have half a foot on the spectrum ourselves. Not pronounced enough to qualify for a diagnosis, but there enough for us to relate well to our affected family members.
There is a genetic data bank out in California that is looking for families like mine with multiple affected individuals. Its called Agre (Autism Genetic Resource Exchange), if anyone is interested in checking them out.
I'm from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. My son, Liam is 3 1/2. we have a running diagnosis of ASD and are waiting (since APRIL ) for our full psyche eval and full diagnosis. My dx guess fluctuates between Aspergers or high functioning autism depending on what the day's been like. He's also showing severe signs of sensory processing disorder. I also have a 1 1/2 year old NT daughter, Kaya.
my name is maggie, my son lucas will be 4 in february. he has not been officially diagnosed, but his pediatrician suspects pdd-nos or high functioning autism. he will have a psych eval and see the neurologist this week, i expect some answers.

I know how you feel. I wouldn't want a confirmation of AS, either. The thing I'm most afraid of is getting an unscrupulous evaluator who will say, "You have AS. You are hopeless. You are too stupid and too old to change, so don't bother trying. If you were six years old instead of 42, we could help you. At your age, you have the obligation to get out of the way for younger people we can help." Better to just deal with my problems on my own. My family and I both prize self-reliance. I think that the strategies that work well for children would be demeaning to a 42 year old person. I really am too old and set in my ways to "start over."
