Movie Theater - Autism Spectrum Message Board

My son is 4 and we have not taken him to the movies yet. I am thinking of taking him to see SpiderMan 3 when it comes out. Have any of you taken your sweeties to the theater and they sat through the whole movie or most of it?

i have taken lucas to the movies a few times. he will be 4 next month. i take him to see movies i think he will enjoy, cartoons and spiderman 2 which he loved. he doesnt sit still. he will walk around, or run, and is not very quiet, my husband and i take turns walking out with him for a few min while he calms down. we try to avoid the evening crowd and go in the afternoons.

I haven't braved the movie theater yet, but my son won't watch a whole movie at home. However, I do have one suggestion.....if your child has issues with sound bothering him, because mine does, and we did this for him to enjoy fireworks, go to the sporting goods section of Walmart or K-mart or some such store and get the type of ear protection that they use when they shoot guns. It will muffle out most of the noise and help them to concentrate on just the show or the fire works, it doesn't mute out all sound, just the really loud sound, it really helped our son overcome his fear of fireworks, and it also helped out several of the kids in his class at school, I donated them to the class when we didn't need them anymore, and they use them all the time! They even went and bought more. They use them when they take the kids out shopping, bowling, skating, all sorts of things, it helps the kids to tune out the sensory overload problem and they focus on the fun or learning. Just a little tip.

hi we go to the theater but we do have the ear protectors that cover over the ears he is 8 ...we take them in the van always that way we don't get "stuck" out and about with out them....make sure you try them on him first so that he likes them to...also my son likes to talk about the movie dureing the movie with people lol

but with the ear protectors it is possable for us other wise we can't even go in it scares him....

I wanted to wait for a good age to take him to the movies and enjoy a movie. My Anthony only sits through movies he really likes. He loves spiderman and so do I.

He doesn't mind loud noises. We have taken him to the fireworks every year since he was born. He loves the lights and the big booms. There are some things that bother him. I don't know why but he does't like when my mom, husband, mother-in-law and I sing. I think he relates our singing to putting him to bed. He tells us to stop singing. At school he is fine singing with the kids and teachers. The ear protection sounds like a great idea. I know that sometimes he goes through phases. When he was 3 he started hating spongebob. He used to lick his fingers and put them in his ears to seal them. Good think he doesn't do that anymore.
