I went to a Autism awareness meeting in my local town, They played an Autism documentary made by a 17 year old Autistic child, who didn’t talk until after 5 years old. He of course had some help from professionals, but he interviews other Autistic children who didn’t have language skills until there later childhood. Some of the children still do not talk but have other ways of communicating. He also interviews MOTHERS who were diagnosed along with their children. These two mothers had no idea what was wrong with them growing up, I think one said she didn’t talk until age 7. It is really a touching movie, I benefited from this movie. It is really comforting to see some of these late talkers getting around in society just fine. My little boy will be six years old this month, he still does not use his words to communicate but he knows how to read simple words and even makes up his own which is above his kindergarten age. Anywho I hunted the movie down on the Internet and bought it, so my extended family can watch, they also found it very touching and it helped them understand Autism better.
