Wink Autism

I am a mother of a five year old autistic son. I am a working mother. I am looking to connect with parents who are dealing with autistic children.

Re: Autism The Binky

It has been three weeks and my son has been completly off his binky(pacifier) I never thought he would be off of it. I kept hoping my son would remove it on his own but I think it was only a dream I had. He is five and he has some sensory issues and he used it just to chew on it. So I Kept hoping he would release it on his own. But I realized it was not going to happen. So my husband kept telling him it was time to give up the binky...he kept saying binky goes bye bye!

Well, my son finally chewed on it so hard, he tore the nippe off. So my husband cut off the nipple and we both realized it was time for our son to let it go. So everytime he would say Binky we gave him the broken one. Then one day went by then two days, my husband and I realized we will go all the way with it. It got tough at times, the third night was really rough and it was a sleepless night. But we lived through it. It has been three weeks and he longer asks for his binky anymore. So if your child has a binky, it is tough but I realize it can be done.

Re: Autism

I just wanted to say HI. I know it is difficult not to be able to share email address on here. You can always come here for support I have a son that is 16 with AS. These kids are amazing and things get better with trial and error. Each child is different. We are great parents I just wanted to let you know that I have reached out to other moms in my school district. I had the head of Early Intervention and my sons teachers give my email address out to other moms to contact me to talk, and support each other and just connect with people who know where you are coming from

Hopes this helps

Smile Re: Autism

Thank you for the words of encouragement, you are so right our children are very special and we are great parents. Sometimes I need to remind myself of that because I am a working mother and I am not able to take my son to school anymore or pick him up. My husband's schedule is more flexiable and sometimes I do miss that flexibility when I use to work from home. But I will take you suggestion of sharing my son's email address at his school. I have to admit the new school he attends which is a autistic language based program is awesome. I have seen great improvements and you are so right early intervention helps. My son was diagnosed at a year and a half. He as come along ways but I do see him getting better.

I have reached out to another mom who has an autistic six year old. I met her through some friends of my mom. She is a great support for me. I believe we help each other.

Thank you again for the suggestion and I am going to pass my email address to some of the parents at my sons school. You are right it is good to connect with other folks who know exactly what we are going through.
