| Re: Looking for referrals......
My grandson had delays in nearly every milestone except speech and using a spoon.
there was NOTHING wrong with him at birth and he was progressing fine til he got RSV at 2 months of age and was in hospital 3 weeks. After he came out he had lost EVERTHING...At 3 months he was like a newborn and the delays started to be obvious at 5 months.
My daughter went to these people searching for an answer to his quirky behavior and delays:
Pediatric Specialist who studies RSVs affect on the developing brain, along with the affect of steroids on the infant brain.
Neurologist---who did an MRI and found nothing wrong.
Orthopedist because he didn't walk til 2. found nothing wrong...
REgular pedia and he wasn't much help, frankly. He gave the vaccinations, basically and issued antibiotics.
Physical Therapist, OT & language therapist (private)
ENT who took out his adenoids and put in tubes so he could hear at 15 months--
ECI (Early Childhood Intervention--play therapy and PT) til age 2.
Otolarynologist who specializes in disorders of the neuro sensory system.
We were not told for sure what was wrong until he went thru some testing on the neuro-sensory system. He is SID (mild) and has dysgraphia which can have a dyslexia component. he is getting therapy for the dysgraphia (writing).
So yes, go to as many docs as you can, if you still cannot figure it out. My gs is in pre K and doing well and he gets help with his handwriting from a shadow teacher. We are very relieved but it took 5 years to get a proper diagnosis!!!
