I have 2 in the same class??? - Autism Spectrum Message Board

Just wondering what everyone else thought. They are both getting into an ese preschool, and they will be in the same class. I don't think its a good idea. I want my son's at different schools, if tha's whay it takes. But I get a lot of, it's not gonna happen, from the school. Gotta stay in district. How do you deal with schools? Who's advocating for my son? Who should I complain too? Anyone else ever been in dilema with public school?

I'm curious why you prefer different schools rather than opt for different classes? Are they twins?

Any way when dealing with the public school sysyem I found that being very outspoken, keep great records of who you spoke with, re what, get everything in writing IEP report and just call everyday several times a day until you get to speak to some one who will listen to you and guide you to the person you need to speak to. It can be very tiring and frustrating but in the end they remember you for your tenacious nature and tend to stop putting you off if they know you won't go away.

Me personally, I'd prefer both of my children at the same school. However, I also want my children in the schools that are best for them.. which may or may not mean the same school. Hopefully you can get what it is you feel is best for your kids.

I do wish they had two classroom's in the school. But our school just has one ese preschool. They are not twins, they are 13 months apart. And they act differently together than they do apart. I am afraid that they will destract each other. Especially Ethan, he does so much better when kyle is not around. And Kyle will not play with other kids. I am afraid we put Ethan in his classroom that he will cling to Ethan and not try to play with other kids. I was hoping that they would get their own big boy experience. They may need emotionally to accomplish things on there own. Without competition from brother.

I can see your point. You could ask the district if they could make other arrangements, but in most cases you get what you get. If they require different levels of support you may be able to push for a different program for one if them if possible. If not, you could certainly try to make the best of the situation.....most teachers involved with these type programs are willing to help. I know with our experences with the intergrated preschool the kids are ALWAYS broken into groups. One group does free play while another group focues on s sensory type activity, one groups goes to the PT room etc. It seems they are only all together during a structed activity like reading circle or a trip to the library in the building.
I do hope this all works out for your boys. Anyone who has more than one child, certainly that close together, knows how they can effect each other.
