I think it's a way of recognising people in all walks of life. If a character with Autism is depicted in a TV show such as home and away, etc (sorry if its a bad example, im Aussie!) then people see that they are an active member of many communities, reality is now, they are. i think as autism awareness is out there in the world there will be characters on tv too...tv shows try in some ways to create 'community' type settings. i reckon its a good thing personally.
Rainman was brilliant, it wasn't until I had an autistic son that I realised how fantastic Dustin Hoffman was!
Education has to be a good thing, if it is done properly. The higher the profile hopefully the better the future life for our chidren?? That's what I hope. I'm not going to be here forever so I want there to be facilities for him in an understanding world. Not to much to ask? HA HA
What I hate are the news teasers that say "coming up at 6, a major breakthough in autism". Then when you watch the show, they just give a little information and there isn't really a major breakthrough. I know it's all just to get viewers, but it's cruel
