Help-Is this part of autism? - Autism Spectrum Message Board

I am a caregiver for my neighbor who works night shifts. I have her 9 yr old son stay over at my house 5 nights a week.

She has told me that he has aspbergers and hyperactive autism.

A couple of things he has done are:

Stabbing the toilet roll with his stick for his ds game (which I have talked to him about and it stops for awhile and then he does it again)

A couple of times he has urinated on the toilet seat but as a mom with girls I thought this was an accident until this a.m. After I took him home I went to use the bathroom and he had once again urinated on the toilet seat and in the process of cleaning this I noticed there was urine on the sides of the garbage bag and he had also emptied his bowels into the garbage can. Is there something going on here?

Just a note, his mother has recently started dating (2 or 3 times in the past 2 weeks.

I have been looking after him for about 6 months. Any info would be appreciated.

Children on the spectrum go through all sorts of different things in reaction to change. Boys in general just can't aim when in the bathroom, however doing #2 in the garbage can is a reaction to something going on. I have a son with Aspergers... the hardest thing for us is that it is very difficult to punish him. He does not understand the choice and consequences part of life. So punishment of any sort does not relate to an action or behavior. Thus only frustrating for the parent or caregiver because of the lack of understanding.
Stability is the key....if mom is dating, the child knows there is change. Change causes stress and uncertianity for them. Whatever you do, stay consistant.
