help please

My six year old son has autism. He was diagnosed at age two, so this is nothing new to us. He is starting mainstream kindergarten in September; wish us luck! Does anyone have any thoughts on getting him to go to bed at night; much difficulty, sometimes takes up to three hours before he will go to sleep. Also any thoughts on getting him to eat new foods or taking vitamins. He eats the same two foods every day; he is deficient in vitamins but he will not swallow a pill and if I put a powder in a drink he wont drink it; hr tastes it!

Re: help please

we also had severe sleep problems when our son was about 7. ask your dr. if melatonin would be a good idea for him - it really helped our son to be able to let down and fall asleep and stay asleep for longer amounts of time. we gave him 1 mg. and eventually went up to 3 mg. it helped a lot in those years. also improved mood probably because he was sleeping at night!

re. vitamins, we have not been able to get him to take vits either but he will eat a fortified cereal, either a warm one or cold with milk. would you son eat cereal?
