I have a question for everyone, The doctors are kind of thinking that my daughter my have autism and one thing that she does constantly is tries to bite, hits, and pulls everyone's hair. She is only 1 and does not really talk at all. Did any of your children do this when they were little. I am just trying to figure out why she is so mean even though she is so young. Any advice would be great thank you
she's not being mean; i think she's just trying to find a way to communicate and the biting is all she's got right now. these hiting and biting behaviors are often a way to try to communicate. some babies scream loudly out of frustration at not being able to get across what they need to.
i would suggest saying things like "nice hands" "nice mouth" and intervene and hold her hands gently but firmly whenever she tries to bite or hit or pull hair. i think a speech therapist who specializes in working with children with autism is a referral that you could talk with your dr. about too.
and then when she is being "good" and gentle, give her lots of praise, like, good girl for nice hands.
