Smile Epsom Salt baths?

I'm reading a very good book that explains the benefits of epsom salt bath for autistic children. Does anyone have any feedback on that?

Thanks,

Nicleyton

Wink Re: Epsom Salt baths?

Does tire the kids out a bit more than a regular bath, was recommended to me to get my son to sleep at night. Did not really do that, I found Melatonin to be the magic solution to that problem. Watch out that your kid does not swallow too much bath water, as the ole salts can give them diarrhea (had to look up the spelling of that one)

I think our autistic kids can have a fairly imbalanced blood vitamin and mineral profile. If your kid is lacking magnesium then the epsom salt bath might be more benificial. My kid was not lacking magnesium on his blood work-up, but the Epsom salt bath cannot do any harm anyway, I think the body soaks up as much or as little as needed.

The epsom salt baths are very nice though for the stressed out mothers of autistic children - leaves your skin very smooth. Buy a big bucket of the stuff at the vets office, especially vet stores that deal with horses. Is also known as magnesium sulphate here in France.

Re: Epsom Salt baths?

Agree with Gaelfish about melatonin for night sleeping problems. A very low dose can be quite helpful. We started with 1 mg. and went up to 3 mg. and it helped a lot during a difficult sleep time.

Don't know much about epson salts. Sorry.
