your opinions on vitamins, please.

I recently met a DAN pediatrician for my 2.5 year old with speech delay and lots of visual stimming. Dr. recommends the below and I persoanlly think this is a lot and may have side effects. Please share your opinions.

1) Caesin free diet
2) Calcium powder (1000 mg/day)
3) Buffered vitamin C for constipation (1/4 tea spoon)
4) Nystatin for yeast (1ml to 2 ml drop)
5) DMG ( 1 tablet)
6) Speak EPA/DHA 725/275 Vit E 5000 (I have read negative reviews about this online)
7) Cod lever oil (2500 IU)
8) Vitamin D drops (1000 IU)
9) CURCUMIN 150 mg / day
10) Carnitor (1g)

Re: your opinions on vitamins, please.

I have to agree with you - this is a LOT for such a young child. This is just my opinion, but what I would do is start with one or two things and keep notes about any changes that you see. Try the one or two things for a few weeks and if you see nothing, move onto something else. And so on. But I would not give all of that at one time, or even half at one time. Please respond back about what you are doing and what results you are seeing.

Re: your opinions on vitamins, please.

ad99,

WOW! Why would one Dr. give that much to a 2.5 year old.
I havent taken any of those you listed.
But have you or the Dr. thought of natural supplements?

Hi- I was looking over the list of meds and wonder what you have decided to do. Also to say that actually some of these might be very worthwhile to at least give a 3 week trial to as they may have benefits. Just my opinion, but I think it would be worthwhile to try to caesin free diet, the calcium, the buffered vit C, the Nystatin, the Cod liver oil (if you have a brand that doesn't have upset stomach effects) as this is quite healthy. And then maybe see what results you are getting and somewhere down the road try the curcumin. Don't know much about Carnitor and I have read of health benefits of EPA/DHA but you could also try that at a later date.

Let us know what you are seeing.

Re: your opinions on vitamins, please.

Keep a check on the vitamin D levels since you can get it in the cod liver oil as well as the vit D supplements ( sometimes it's added to calcium supplements too). Apparently an overdose is rare, but because it's not water soluble it can accumulate in the body.

http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/about-vitamin-d/what-is-vitamin-d/vitamin-d-toxicity/ - I thought this was a reasonable article on it.

Re: your opinions on vitamins, please.

I think that it is way too much to give a 2 year old. Try a couple of them , and if you see a difference try a couple more. I would not give all at once. Some of those would need a blood test to get a base line before administering.
