I have a 5 year old nonverbal autistic son. He has used the toilet occasionally both inside and outside of school. He has even gotten himself out of the bath to use the toilet completely on his own. However, he does not request to go nor does he care about being wet or dirty. Each and every time he has used the toilet immense praise has been given but he looks at us as though we are aliens for praising him. Hehe.
Anyhow, all of his teachers and specialists have stated that we should use computer time as a motivator for toilet training. This area is a huge motivator for him however I don't know how to use it to initiate or continue toilet training. I don't mean to sound so clueless on this matter but upon asking how we should use it we were told to only allow him to use the computer for small intervals if and only if he uses the toilet. This would work if he would put the action and reward together....which he may and I just do not realize it but at home he does not seem to do so.
I'm limiting my own computer use to whenever he is not in the room so he doesn't feel as though he has computer access. I don't mean to sound harsh. I'm open to any and all advice in this area. Thank you all.
