Autistic 10 year old boy...

Hey All,

This is my first time using this message board and I'm hoping you all might be able to help me.
My 10 year old son has Dyspraxia (aka Global development delay) and Autisim - Not all of his traits fit into the Dyspraxia condition.

Today when I picked him up from school his teacher said he looked as if his mind wandered and he was pinching himself on the back of the hand repeatedly - he's never done this before he's usually very placid but does go off in to his own world. It's the hand pinching that's concerning me as thats a new behaviour, as he's nearing puberty what should I expect?

Some days it feels like I have a totally new son to the day before!

Thanks in advance

Possibly some sort of stim or self regulation? She's not concerned he was having a seizure, is she? I don't know what you should expect with puberty coming on. My boys are all on the spectrum...18, 16 and 11. I didn't notice anything with my 18 or 11 year old. My middle son, and the lowest functioning, seems to have a penchant for porn. His pediatrician about had a heart attack when I told him that "D" was watching porn. He told him to stop, that it was bad. I had to disagree with him on that one. I don't have any "typical" kids of my own to compare him to, but I have plenty of friends and family member that have gone through puberty with their boys. From what I gather, a lot of these kids are sneaking and watching it. The difference is that they know not to do it in front of their parents. When "D" starts, I tell him to take his computer to his room. Now that I think about it, maybe my other kids did do it and hide it from me. Hmmmmmm. Other than that, it's been a lot easier than I thought it would be.
