Severe reoccuring mouth ulcers, headaches and joint pain
Any ideas, Doc says has to be autoimmune, but can't figure it out. Son at age 16 developed what they thought was severe herpetic stomatitis, but it was not. MOuth was so ulcerated that lips scabbed completely shut and he was hospitalized for dehydration and secondary bacterial septicemia after swimming in the ocean near a storm water runoff drain. over next couple years had to be hospitalized again for dehydration and inability to take anything by mouth due to pain and ulceration. Had biopsies done that came back severe inflammation. negative for cox sackie and neg for herpes. Labs show low immunoglobulins, thats about it. Now 27 years old still having severely painful and reoccurring ulcers with hip and back pain and daily headaches. Has seen rheumatologist, ENT, oral surgeon and general practitioner. I WANT SOME answers. What would you suggest? Anyone had similar symptoms?

He needs to be checked for Behcet's Syndrome...features everything you mentioned, especially the mouth ulcers. Rare in this country. Hard to pin down as well. Causes inflammation of the mid sized arteries all over the body so symptoms include headaches and joint pain and all sorts of weird things. Can cause aneurysms to form so it can be life threatening if not diagnosed.
You can do a search on it and find lots of info.
