I agree with you - if something helps, keep doing it!
Unfortunately in case like mine nothing really works, but this doesn't mean i let it go, I still do what has to be done anyway. For example, despite the pain and stiffness, I still move no matter what. I walk through all the pain, push to stretch and do some exercises. For someone who used to live in gym, this of course very mild activities, but better than nothing.
I also try to avoid veggies which is not good for anyone, especially for people with any kind of Arthritis, it called shade veggies, like green peppers, eggplants, tomatoes... Sugar is definitely out, it bad for everyone anyway.
I take good, natural vitamins, also healthy oils like Omega's and Flax seed oil. Drink healthy herbal teas...Who knows if it working or not, but how do I know if it wouldn't be worse without all what I do? So we try our best, this all we can do...
