MRSA-boils both armpits

This makes the 3rd time I have had boils in my armpit, the latest episode I have a single boil in my left armpit. I am being treated with smz-tmp 400-80 mg. It has been 5 months since my last infection, this was when I was diagnosed with MRSA. My question is will it always be with me, can it be eradicated? Should I see a specialist? The MRSA always seems to be confined to my armpits. This medication seems to be very strong it has given me a yeast infection 2 different times.

Re: MRSA-boils both armpits

Hi, DW. Sorry so slow, I just read your post, and I wanted to say HI and WELCOME.

I'm obviously no doctor, to put it mildly. But since it's MRSA, you could consider an infectious disease specialist, to double-check med & monitor staph levels. From the little I've seen, staph can persist nastily. A friend is still on an antibiotic a full year after being dx'ed with *non-MRSA*.

Have you improved or gotten fresh input? With luck, this will find you already improved---I hope so! With my best wishes, sincerely, Vee

Re: MRSA-boils both armpits

I successfully got rid of the boil before it was able to come to head, I used chlorhexidine for 3 weeks over my entire body. So far I haven't had a reoccurance. I have read where MRSA usually populates inside nose and moist areas of your body. I have been very careful to disinfect my bathroom using towels and washrags only once. I am also careful to wash my hands frequently. Hopefully I will not have a reoccurance. I have also read where it is important to keep your immunce system up, however, I have taken antibiotics so frequently since my operation last on my deviated septum, that I haven't had a chance to build my immune system up. I am optimistic that I will get a handle on this.

Re: MRSA-boils both armpits

Hi, I'm glad you shut down that boil. I've also read & been told that staph is ever-present in nose, on skin, etc., and that the MRSA kind is of course more dangerous due to its resistance to antibiotics. But I think any staph---MRSA or not---that goes bloodborne can wreak systemic havoc. Are you seeing a doctor for checkups? I hope this is your last round of this! Take good care, Vee

Re: MRSA-boils both armpits

I am seeing my primary physician, but if it flares up again I am going to see a specialist as you have suggested. I understand that it can flare up again and again and worse yet it is getting to the point when some of our strongest antbiotics are ineffective against it. I believe that I was infected when I had the deviated septum surgery, as I have never had this problem before. At any rate thank you for your suggestions and concern.

Re: MRSA-boils both armpits

Hi, I'm glad you have a follow-up plan for "just in case". I hope your Primary will prove that the MRSA is gone, so you can kick back & relax without having to bump up to a specialist. Wishing you a speedy conclusion & no recurrence ever, all best wishes, sincerely, Vee
