Question Back Problem affecting going to the bathroom?

Can my back problem cause more pain when having a bowel movement? I have been having increasing pain over the last two weeks and I notice it is worse when I feel a bowel movement coming on. I have lost a lot of weight due to no appeitite and I have seen a specialist who has recommended a shot and physical therapy. I have been going to work and just dealing with it because I was out one Thursday due to it and I found out an employee made a smart--- comment about it. This is starting to really affect my mental being, I just cant take being or feeling this way anymore! I do have the FMLA but really do not have the time to take off due to a female surgery I had previously that pretty much depleted my paid days off. I notice the pain is worse then run to the bathroom and my back hurts so much! I tried to get into see my doctor yesterday but he is booked up for a couple of weeks and the soonest they can get me in with the other doctor for the shot is next wednesday. I have a "Right parecentral disc herniation which extends into the spinal canal approx 6mm. This abuts the S1 nerve root as it decends in the lateral recess. Disc displaces the thecal sac slightly to the left". Also have L4-5 broad based disc bulge.
Just wondering if this is what affecting my bowels and the pain is so bad when going to the bathroom. It is just an aweful feeling and think I might need to go to the Er but I hate to think of another bill. I do have insurance but it only covers so much. Thanks in advance for any information. Praying for all of you to be pain free![B]

Summerset, I do believe I would get this checked out sooner than your next appt. Tell the NURSE, not the receptionist, about your symptoms and that should get them to fit you in sooner. If not, then a trip to ER is in order, provided you have access to a good ER. Does the pain stop after you go to the bathroom? Is all the pain in your back? I find your symptoms worrisome and will be watching for your next post.
Take care.
Carol

Thanks Carol

[B]Thanks Carol for you reply. Yes the pain is in my back and I feel like I will not make it to the bathroom then sometimes I can go and some times I feel like I have to and cant. Today I have no appetite at all so not eating much at all seems to have helped this afternoon. I finally took a muscle relaxer my doctor gave me and just stayed on the couch. The pain in my middle back is vague now but still there. It seems to hurt worse in the lower back and lower left front side when I feel the worst. It is truly embarrasing to talk about but it really hurts bad. The pain in the back is always there even with medication but in the last two weeks worst when I try to have a bowel movement so I do not know if it is something to do with my diagnosed back problem or not, I just know it hurts worst at that time.
Thanks for your help, I will go to the ER tonight if it gets that bad again. Right now I am maintaining. I had lots of plans this weekend but everything is off now. Just resting and hoping to be able to make it through yet another week, closer to the time for the evaluation for the shot with the doctor.
Thanks again, this place has been a blessing for me! God bless you all!
